John Cena has a message for members of the WWE Universe who are skeptical about his retirement.
The Never-Seen-Seventeen will step into the ring one final time on December 13. Cena capped off his WWE premium live event run at Survivor Series: WarGames, where he dropped the Intercontinental Championship to Dominik Mysterio. The match also featured the return of Liv Morgan, who helped Dom defeat Cena for the title.
John Cena on fans skeptical of his retirement
Cena recently stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live to hype up his final WWE in-ring appearance at Saturday Nightâ€s Main Event. During the conversation, the Cenation Leader shared his thoughts on fans who doubt his retirement.
“But itâ€s weird, because thereâ€s a lot of skepticism out there because this has never been before,†Cena said. “I just hope that people can come to grips with that because on the 13th, the reason I wanted to give so much lead time, is being able to perform for two decades and allowing me into their living room, week after week, 52 weeks out of the year without reruns, you feel a connection with people.
“In touring the world in this last year, it really has been beautiful, meeting audience members and them sharing their stories and connections has been great. I wanted to give people a heads up so we could have… or people could process… whatever closure they wanted for the 13th. And if youâ€re one of those people who [say] ‘Youâ€re never going to retire!†After the 13th is going to be weird because you donâ€t have the closure you want. So, I really hope people tune in to Saturday Nightâ€s Main Event, itâ€s the last one I got.â€
