Jalen Hurts Says 'There's No Such Thing as Luck' After Eagles' Win vs. Rams
The Philadelphia Eagles overcame a 19-point deficit in the second half on Sunday to defeat the Los Angeles Rams, 33-26, buoyed by a pair of blocked field goals in the fourth quarter.
It’s fairly rare that a team blocks two field goals, let alone a potential game-winner as time expires, but Jalen Hurts wasn’t about to chalk it up to luck.
“There’s no such thing as luck,” he told reporters after the win. “You make your own luck. This was very revealing. There ain’t another group of guys I want to play with. As ugly as it was, and as beautiful as the ending, you can only learn.”
One thing the Eagles learned, potentially, was to open up the offensive playbook a bit more going forward. After a fairly miserable first half, Hurts had 204 passing yards and three touchdowns in the second half as the Eagles finally went less conservative with the game plan.
But after the Rams scored a touchdown just a minute into the third quarter to take a 26-7 lead, Philly’s defense held them scoreless the rest of the way. Blocking a pair of field goals and forcing a turnover on downs in the fourth quarter certainly helped in that effort.
It wasn’t pretty, but the defending champs are now 3-0 on the season, and Hurts doesn’t think there’s anything lucky about it.
