Itâ€s been another good season for Isle of Wight Table Tennis and there was great enthusiasm on Friday evening (26th September) at Ryde Castle Hotel for the Associationâ€s annual Presentation Evening, when 96 trophies / awards were presented after the buffet supper to 60 of the Islandâ€s players.

Among the notable successes were:

  • Ryan Cates and Elaine Mills – respective Menâ€s and Ladies†Singles winners
  • Paul Rainford and Ryan Cates – Menâ€s Doubles Winners
  • Anna Joyce and Nicky Dando – Womenâ€s Doubles Winners
  • Anna Joyce and Ryan Cates – Mixed Doubles Winners
  • Ryan Cates – Juniors Tournament winner
  • Jye Lock – Cadets Tournament winner

Three players in particular – Alex Rorke, Paul Rainford and Ryan Cates – had excellent seasons, with each player winning five trophies.

It was 19-year-old Ryan who had the most notable successes, winning the Winter League team event, the Menâ€s Singles and Doubles and the Mixed Doubles, as well as the Juniors tournament. This was a notable achievement by the Islandâ€s top young player.

Ryan has had an outstanding season and he received a special award of a table tennis shirt & shorts with logo, which was presented to him by Danny Burns. It was Danny who was the last player to win both the Menâ€s and the Juniors Singles tournament in the same season (1996).

The Islandâ€s players now look forward to a new season starting the Winter League which commences next week.
