India has defeated Bangladesh in a Super Fours match of the Asia Cup 2025 by 41 runs. With this win, the defending champions have qualified for the final.
India vs Bangladesh in the Super Fours of the Asia Cup 2025 was played at the Dubai International Stadium, with Bangladesh winning the toss and deciding to bowl first, something which has been a trend in this tournament.
India actually got off to a strong start to their inning, with the opening pair of Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma scoring 72 runs in the powerplay. While Gill scored a relatively conservative 25 off 17, Abhishek caught fire from the very beginning, making 46 off 19 in the first six overs.
However, a collapse started when, in the seventh over, Shubman Gill was dismissed by Rishad Hossain. Shivam Dube then came in, having been promoted to No. 3 to keep the pace of scoring up. However, in the ninth over, he became Hossainâ€s second wicket of the day, getting out after making two runs.
India made 96 runs in the first 10 overs, mostly thanks to Abhishek Sharma, who had scored a half-century at a strike rate higher than 200. By the time he was dismissed via run-out in the 12th over after making 75 off 37, the team score was 112/3. It seemed that the Indian Cricket Team would aim to go past 200 runs. However, that was not in the cards.
In the very same over, Captain Suryakumar Yadav got out after making five off 11. With India four wickets down in 12 overs, the incoming Hardik Pandya decided to put the shutter down and anchor onto the pitch. For the remaining eight overs, Hardik stayed on strike, surrounded by a shifting cast of batters.
First, Tilak Varma made five off seven, and then Axar Patel scored a slow 10 off 15. Pandya stayed on the crease till the last ball of the innings, having scored 38 off 29. India, having scored at a pace of 12 rpo in the powerplay, ended their inning at 168/6 in 20 overs.
In response, Bangladesh saw one of their wickets fall super early, as opener Tanzid Hasan got out for one in the second over, having been dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah. But then, Saif Hassan and Parvez Hossain Emon ensured that no other wicket fell in the powerplay, taking the score to 44 runs in six overs.
Immediately after the end of the powerplay, Emon got out for 21 off 19. Towhid Hridoy got out soon after scoring seven off 10. Shamim Hossain scored a duck, while the captain for the day, Jaker Ali, scored only four.
With the score 87/5 in the 13th over, the Bangla Tigers were in trouble. However, they had hope in Saif Hassan, who stood firm at one end. Despite that, wickets kept falling at the other end. Mohammad Saifuddin for four, Rishad Hosain for two, Tanzim Hasan Sakib for a golden duck, and Nasum Ahmed for four.
By the time Saif was dismissed for 69 off 51, the score was 116/9 in the 18th over, and the match was done and dusted. Bangladesh got all out for 127 runs in the 20th over, losing the game by 41 runs.
For his blistering inning while opening the Indian innings, Abhishek Sharma was the obvious choice for the Player of the Match award.
As for the Men in Blue, after winning this India vs Bangladesh match, having already defeated Pakistan in the Super Fours, they have qualified for their second consecutive Asia Cup final. They will now face Sri Lanka in their last game of this round.
As for Bangladesh, they still have a chance of making it into the final. After defeating Sri Lanka in their first Super Fours match of the Asia Cup 2025, they now just need a win against Pakistan in their third and final game.
