How Jake Knapp ended up with this big-time caddie on the bag

One of the most important roles on any pro golfer’s team is the caddie. Inside the ropes, caddies are the only lifeline a golfer has. In an individual sport like golf, that’s an invaluable asset.

It’s no wonder that pros are so particular about who they employ on the bag. A great caddie can be the difference between winning and losing, so having the correct person out there with you is imperative.

Jake Knapp knows this fact well. As a rising star in the game, he’s doing everything he can to make sure he’s set up for success — and that includes having the right caddie out there by his side.

Recently, Knapp joined forces with Joe Greiner, who’s worked for Max Homa and Collin Morikawa in the past. And on this week’s episode of GOLF’s Subpar, Knapp explained how he linked up with the veteran caddie.

Knapp, who just finished up his second full season on Tour, has known Greiner for a long time through an assistant coach at his alma mater, UCLA. He’d also played many times alongside Homa and got a close-up look at how Greiner worked as a bagman. Safe to say, Knapp came away impressed.

“I always had a list of guys that if they became available, I’d at least be willing to have a conversation to see if they’re interested,” Knapp said. “He had opportunities to go other places, but then he gave me the call saying he’d be excited to work for me.”

The partnership is still only in its infancy with just one start for the duo thus far, but if Greiner’s previous success is any indication, the sky is the limit for the two.

“Looking forward to next season with him,” Knapp said.
