Gill And Bumrah Undergoing Fitness Test in UAE

Gill And Bumrah Undergoing Fitness Test in UAE: India’s Test captain Shubman Gill has reported to the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru for routine fitness checks ahead of the Asia Cup 2025. The 25-year-old opener, recently laid low by flu, skipped North Zone’s Duleep Trophy quarterfinal but has resumed preparations before linking up with the national squad in Dubai next week.

Gill will be joined at the CoE by several senior teammates, including Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj, Washington Sundar, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shardul Thakur, all of whom are due for the mandatory pre-season assessments. Wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma has already arrived.

Unlike past tours, the Indian contingent will assemble in Dubai in staggered fashion from their respective bases, with the first arrivals expected from September 4. India open their campaign on September 9 against hosts United Arab Emirates.

Thakur, named to captain West Zone in the Duleep Trophy semi-finals, is expected to balance domestic duty with his fitness obligations, while Jaiswal and Sundar, both on the standby list for the Asia Cup, are also slated to feature in the tournament’s last-four stage. Other squad members — Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana and Kuldeep Yadav — are currently engaged in quarterfinal fixtures.

Meanwhile, East Zone’s preparations have been unsettled by an injury scare to Mukesh Kumar. The Bengal seamer, who left the field during the first innings with thigh and groin discomfort, did not bowl in the second innings of the quarterfinal, although he did bat earlier in the match.

South Zone will also be forced into a leadership reshuffle, with Tilak Varma withdrawn for India duty. Mohammed Azharuddeen, named vice-captain, is among the options to step up for the semi-final from September 4.
