This former WWE Superstar believes sheâ€s more comfortable financially working the independent circuit compared to her time in NXT.
Gigi Dolin returned to wrestling under her real name, Priscilla Kelly, after her WWE release earlier this year. She has since appeared for numerous independent promotions and is set to face Shotzi at MLW on November 20.
Former WWE Superstar Priscilla Kelly recently spoke with Denise Salcedo. During the interview, Kelly debunked the misconception fans have about WWE NXT talent and their financial stability. She also reminded fans that paying for food, travel, and lodging takes a significant toll on a wrestlerâ€s budget.
“The common misconception, especially about NXT performers, is that weâ€re millionaires. A lot of our fans for some reason think that if you work in WWE and youâ€re under that umbrella, youâ€re a millionaire. You live in a mansion, youâ€re driving a Benz, youâ€ve got it made. Thatâ€s not the case,†she said.
“In NXT, thereâ€s contracts as low as $30,000 a year and they do not go as high as you think. You have to live in Florida, which is very expensive. Going out to eat just for two people can run you a hundred plus bucks. Because everything is marked up for tourism, and Floridaâ€s just a hotbed for people. Having to pay for new gear all the time and all these expenses, taking care of your body and getting all these little things, it all adds up…â€
Priscilla Kelly on making more money on the indies compared to WWE NXT
“But, with all of that being said, I actually think with the amount I work — because Iâ€ve always been a hustler during the independents, Iâ€ve always been a person that works my ass off and hustles and tries to capitalize wherever I can. With all my work, all of the bookings Iâ€ve been taking, I arguably think that I actually make more than I made in NXT now.†[H/T: Fightful]
