Fernando Tatis Jr., Bobby Witt Jr. win Platinum Gloves

Rawlings announced the winners of the 2025 Platinum Glove Awards on Friday night, honoring the best defensive player in each league, regardless of position, as well as the best defensive team in each league.

Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. was named the American League Platinum Glove winner, while in the National League, Padres right fielder Fernando Tatis Jr. won his second career Platinum Glove honor and second in the past three years.

The Rangers took home the Gold Glove team honor in the AL, while the Cubs were named the best defensive club in the NL.

Witt, who won his second consecutive Gold Glove Award this year, co-led all MLB players — regardless of position — in Statcast Outs Above Average, with +24 (tied with Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong), demonstrating his tremendous range at shortstop. Since 2023, no player has racked up more OAA than Wittâ€s +54.

Tatis, meanwhile, finished the season tied with Crow-Armstrong for most defensive runs saved among NL outfielders, with +15. Since 2023, when he moved from shortstop to right field, Tatis leads all NL outfielders by a wide margin with +42 DRS. His seamless transition to right field has resulted in two Gold Glove honors in three years.

On the team front, while the Rangers did not have their customary prodigious performance on offense last season, their defense was stellar. Texas led the Majors with +89 DRS. A key contributor was second baseman Marcus Semien, who won his second career Gold Glove Award.

The Cubs led all Major League teams with a collective +36 OAA, and in terms of DRS, Chicago’s +84 trailed only Texas. The North Siders†defensive prowess was also reflected in the individual Gold Glove Award results. The club tied a franchise record with three Gold Glove winners in 2025 — second baseman Nico Hoerner, left fielder Ian Happ and center fielder Crow-Armstrong.
