Father, Mother, Sister, A Look at his Family and Upbringing

Shreyas Santosh Iyer is an Indian international cricketer who plays as a right-handed middle-order batsman for the Indian national team. He serves as the vice-captain of India in ODIs and represents Mumbai in domestic cricket. In the Indian Premier League, Iyer captains the Punjab Kings. He was also a key member of the Indian team that won the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.

At the age of twelve, Gillâ€s talent caught the eye of former India bowler Karsan Ghavri, who recommended him for the Under-19 All-India pace bowlers†camp after watching him bat against fast bowlers in the nets. Impressed by his skill, Ghavri asked the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) to include him in the Punjab Under-14 team. Gill has been close friends with Abhishek Sharma since childhood, and the two used to open the innings together for Punjab in the Under-14 category.

His professional breakthrough came during the 2015 IPL auction, when the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) bought him for ₹2.6 crore, marking one of the highest bids for an uncapped player at the time. In that debut season, he scored 439 runs and was named the IPL Emerging Player of the Year.

In a record-setting moment, Iyer was bought by the Punjab Kings for ₹26.75 crore, becoming the most expensive player in IPL history at that time. However, the record was surpassed later in the same auction when Rishabh Pant was bought by the Lucknow Super Giants for ₹27 crore.
