ENG vs SA 1st ODI Prediction: England’s home summer will resume with white-ball internationals following the Test series against India and the Hundred.
The Three Lions are set to host the Proteas for three ODIs and as many T20Is. While T20Is are of more significance in the coming months leading into the T20 World Cup in February next year, South Africa have been vocal about giving importance to ODIs as well since they will be hosting the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Temba Bavuma’s side is coming off an ODI series win in Australia, and England, too, had secured a series win in their last ODI series, beating the West Indies 3-0 at home earlier in the summer.
England and South Africa have met in 71 ODI matches so far, with England leading the head-to-head record with 35 wins and 30 losses. One match between them was tied, and five were washed out.
England have announced their playing XI for the 1st ODI. Hampshire fast bowler Sonny Baker will be making his ODI debut in Leeds on Tuesday.
For South Africa, Matthew Breetzke and Kagiso Rabada are unlikely to feature in the 1st ODI, as both are recovering from niggles. Marco Jansen is not part of the ODI squad.
