Defending champions look strong again as YBCL returns

October 7, 2025 | Paul Stimpson

London Academy and Grantham Academy are again the teams to beat as they respectively aim for four and three successive Youth British Clubs League, Premier Division titles.

The London side will feel confident, with the No 3, 5 and 5-rated players in their squad in the shape of Sophie Barcsai, Sienna Jetha and Maliha Baig.

The challenge could come from Grantham College, who have a multi-cultural line-up headed by No 2 Junior and England Senior international Ella Pashley and augmented by Jerseyâ€s Hannah Silcock (dummy rating 3) and Wales†Lowri Hurd (No 7).

Draycott can boast No 5 Mabel Shute and Noami Coker, who has a dummy rating of No 8, while Cippenham have two top-10 players in Rachael Iles and Mia Lakhani.

Greenhouse and Birmingham, led by Jonabel Taguibao (No 9) and Brooke Morris (No 12) respectively, complete the six-team roster.

In the boys†competition, Grantham feature Abraham Sellado, fresh from his appearance in the Europe Youth Top 10, alongside Isaac Kingham and Aarav Parihar for an all top 10-rated line-up.

They are likely to be challenged by Fusion, who have No 3 Junior Larry Trumpauskas as their spearhead, backed up by No 5 Rohan Dani – a recent silver medallist on the WTT youth circuit – and Francesco Bonato.

No 1 Junior Max Radiven leads the eBaTT squad, while Woodford Wells have Benjamin Zijadic, with a No 3 dummy rating, and No 10 Adam Albhai in their ranks.

Joola Plymouth, led by twins Leo and Hugo Nguyen, and Draycott, with No 9 Junior Zac Greenhough, complete the division.

With 15 divisions and more than 360 players, it will be another full-on weekend at Derby Arena and satellite venue Draycott & Long Eaton TTC.
