Commanders’ Jayden Daniels ‘Doing Everything’ to Return from Knee Injury, Says Quinn

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels is working hard to expedite his return to the field as he deals with a knee sprain.

Head coach Dan Quinn told reporters Wednesday the second-year star is “doing everything you possibly can to get there.”

Daniels was sidelined for Washington’s 41-24 win over the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 3. The offense didn’t look much worse without him under center. Marcus Mariota was an efficient 15-of-21 for 207 yards and a touchdown, while the Commanders piled up 201 yards on the ground.

The status of the 2024 Offensive Rookie of the Year may loom larger in Week 4.

The Atlanta Falcons are second in total defense so far by allowing just 227.3 yards per game. No team is giving up fewer yards through the air (131.0), and opposing quarterbacks have a paltry 76.0 passer rating against the Falcons so far.

While it came out on the losing end, Atlanta limited Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield to 167 yards on 32 attempts in the opening week.

Mariota is an experienced backup who’s a pretty close facsimile to Daniels in terms of their playing styles. Offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury doesn’t have to change the game plan much when the one Heisman Trophy winner is filling in for the other.

Still, Washington will have better odds of improving its record to 3-1 if Daniels is on the field against the Falcons.
