Canelo Alvarez Says Net Worth May Hit Billionaire Status After Crawford Prize Money

The long-awaited Canelo Álvarez-Terence Crawford fight is already a win in one way for Álvarez.

Canelo told TMZ Sports that his net worth could reach the $1 billion mark with his payout from Saturday’s showdown (starts at 2:30 mark).

“Maybe,” he said. “We’re getting close.”

Álvarez’s exact net worth is unclear, but he’s got more than enough to take care of himself and his family for several generations. The 35-year-old signed a four-fight contract with Turki Alalshikh, chairman of Saudi Arabia’s general entertainment authority, and Riyadh Season in February.

That deal is believed to be worth around $400 million and is expected to run through at least 2026.

UFC president Dana White, who is promoting Saturday’s bout under the Zuffa Boxing umbrella, told Vegas PBS on Tuesday that Álvarez will “probably” earn at least $100 million from this fight.

White also told TMZ that Saturday’s bout is the third-largest boxing gate of all-time and the biggest for a boxing event held in a stadium.

The difference in payout for this bout is significant. Crawford has said he will be receiving $10 million, but he wanted to fight Álvarez “for the opportunity” and “the legacy.”

Assuming Álvarez eventually reaches $1 billion in net worth, he will become the 18th athlete in history to reach that mark when adjusted for inflation. Michael Jordan has the highest career earnings at $4.15 billion ($3 billion when not adjusted for inflation).

Álvarez will be defending the undisputed super middleweight championship against Crawford on Saturday at Allegiant Stadium. Álvarez has won each of his last six fights, including defeating William Scull in May to become the undisputed champ in the 168-pound division.

Crawford is undefeated in 41 professional fights, with 31 wins by knockout or TKO.
