Cam Schlittler Shades Lucy Burdge with Viral Post After Yankees Eliminate Red Sox
After dominating the Boston Red Sox in Game 3 of the American League Wild Card Series on Thursday, New York Yankees rookie starting pitcher Cam Schlittler talked trash to a well-known Red Sox fan on social media.
In response to Red Sox fan and DraftKings personality Lucy Burdge posting a photo of herself on X along with the caption, “Sox in 3,” Schlittler responded, “Not this year.”
Schlittler, 24, made his first career postseason start Thursday after making only 14 starts during the regular season.
He looked like a seasoned vet in the winner-take-all game, allowing just five hits and no runs, while walking none and striking out 12 in eight innings of work at Yankee Stadium.
According to ESPN Insights, Schlittler made MLB history with his performance as the first pitcher to ever throw eight scoreless innings with 12 or more strikeouts and no walks in a playoff game.
Adding insult to injury for Red Sox fans like Burdge is the fact that Schlittler was born in Walpole, Massachusetts, and grew up a Red Sox fan himself.
Although Schlittler almost exclusively threw hard stuff with a 100-plus-mph fastball, a cutter and a sinker, Boston’s hitters were flummoxed.
In fact, the Red Sox didn’t have any extra-base hits in the game, and Schlittler rarely found himself in any danger of surrendering runs.
The Yankees got all the runs they needed when they broke things open in the fourth inning. It started with an Amed Rosaria RBI single, followed by an Anthony Volpe RBI single.
Then, two more runs scored when Red Sox first baseman Nathaniel Lowe committed an error on a hard-hit grounder by Yankees catcher Austin Wells.
With the 4-0 win in Game 3, the Yankees advanced to the American League Division Series where they will face the AL East champion Toronto Blue Jays, who beat them out for the division title on a tiebreaker.
Game 1 will be played Saturday in Toronto, and Schlittler is lining up to potentially start Game 4 of the series if it goes beyond the minimum three games.
