Bruce Bochy returns to Giants as special advisor to baseball operations

Former San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy is returning to the organization as a special adviser to baseball operations, the team announced on Monday.

Bochy, who will work on the Giants’ baseball and business sides, managed the Giants from 2007-2019 and led the franchise to three World Series titles.

“Having Boch back in the organization means a great deal to all of us,†said Giants president of baseball operations Buster Posey, who played for Bochy in 11 of his 12 MLB seasons. “His experience, leadership and feel for the game are unmatched, and his perspective will be invaluable as we continue building towards sustained success.â€

Bochy, along with former Giants manager and current special advisor Dusty Baker, were part of the vetting process as the team went about hiring new manager Tony Vitello.

This will be the 70-year-old Bochy’s second time serving in an advisory role with the Giants after a stint from 2020-2022 following his 2019 retirement announcement. Bochy came out of retirement to manage the Texas Rangers beginning in 2023, helping the club to its first World Series title. He managed two more seasons before parting ways in September.

“I couldnâ€t be more excited to reconnect with the Giants organization and so many familiar faces,†Bochy said. “This organization and city mean a lot to me and my family, and Iâ€m grateful for the opportunity to contribute in any way I can.â€

Following a nine-season career as a player, Bochy got his start as a manger in 1995 with the San Diego Padres where he led the club to the playoff four times, which included a trip to the 1998 World Series. He left San Diego to take over the Giants beginning with the 2006 season.
