Broncos’ Dre Greenlaw Suspended After Altercation with Ref from Win vs. Giants

The NFL reportedly suspended Denver Broncos linebacker Dre Greenlaw for one game without pay for an altercation with an official following Sunday’s win over the New York Giants.

After an appeal, the NFL announced the suspension was upheld:

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport first reported Monday the suspension came for the unsportsmanlike conduct with the league explaining “After the conclusion of the Giants-Broncos game, Greenlaw chased after referee Brad Allen and verbally threatened him as he tried to leave the field.”

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo shared more details:

The video shows Greenlaw seeking out the official and yelling at him as his Broncos teammates celebrate Wil Lutz’s game-winning field goal.

The linebacker finished with six tackles and a quarterback hit in what was his first game with Denver. He signed with the AFC West team during the offseason after spending his first six years with the San Francisco 49ers but was on injured reserve because of a quad injury.

Denver signed him to a three-year, $31.5 million contract after he posted 120 or more tackles in back-to-back seasons in 2022 and 2023. However, injuries limited him to just two games last season and prevented him from starting the 2025 campaign on time.

Greenlaw’s incident came at the end of an unbelievable game.

It seemed as if New York was in full control when it took a 19-0 lead into the fourth quarter, but the Broncos scored 33 points in the final 15 minutes. Jaxson Dart’s ugly interception deep in Giants’ territory helped make the comeback possible, but Bo Nix deserves plenty of credit as well.

He threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more in an astounding fourth quarter, the last of which put the home team ahead with fewer than two minutes remaining. Yet Dart led his own touchdown drive after that to give the Giants a two-point lead with 37 seconds remaining.

However, that was still enough time for Nix to get Denver into field-goal range, and Lutz delivered on the kick as time expired.

The Broncos have plenty of momentum even with Greenlaw’s suspension thanks to four straight wins. Next up is a home game against the Dallas Cowboys.
