Ronda Rousey has always landed in hot water thanks to her controversial remarks about WWE and MMA and now Booker T has made it clear sheâ€ll never be embraced by the wrestling world again.
While speaking on the Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T said Ronda Rousey was wrong when she claimed MMA fans donâ€t respect their legends. He explained that many UFC fighters are still loved long after they retire, even if they go through tough times, like BJ Penn.
Booker T also said he doesnâ€t understand why she compared that to WWE legends, because some WWE legends were treated badly when they returned years ago.
“She also said that MMA fans donâ€t have reverence for their legends. Like, as soon as you lose one fight, youâ€re not anything — you never were anything — and then itâ€s on to the next one. That was a really bad take. Yeah, that was a terrible take from Ronda Rousey, because I think UFC guys get treated very well after their careers are over. Some of them, yeah, the fans still love them. I mean, some of those guys have been hit in the head so many times they lose their minds.
Look at BJ Penn and what heâ€s going through — heâ€s still a legend, and people still love him. Heâ€s on an island on his own, but still. I donâ€t know what she was talking about with WWE legends. I donâ€t know if she was watching any of the shows and how the legends were treated when they came back to WWE back in the day. It wasnâ€t the greatest thing to come back to.â€
Booker said he doesnâ€t know why Rousey seems so angry or bitter. In his view, she made a major impact on the sport and should be proud of what she accomplished. The wrestling world accepted her, but she often spoke negatively about wrestling both while she was there and after she left, and he canâ€t understand why.
“Ronda Rousey… I donâ€t know what her problem is. I donâ€t know why sheâ€s so mad. She did a great thing for the sport — she really did — and she should embrace that. She should embrace what she did, who she is, and who she was. I donâ€t know why sheâ€s so bitter. The wrestling world let her in, and I think the wrestling world embraced Ronda. And then she just took a big crap on professional wrestling immediately when she left, and sometimes even when she was there. Why?â€
Booker said some wrestlers get very bitter as they get older, and he doesnâ€t want Ronda to become like that, but he feels she already is. He also said he doesnâ€t think wrestling will welcome her back again.
“I donâ€t know. Some people, youâ€re never going to understand their agenda. You see some of the boys in wrestling get real bitter as they get older, and I donâ€t want Ronda to be like that. But sheâ€s already there. Sheâ€s already there, bro. And I donâ€t know how she comes back from this. I donâ€t think the wrestling world is going to embrace her ever again.â€
The WWE Hall of Famer believes both MMA and wrestling have moved past her, but that doesnâ€t mean people will forget what she achieved. What he doesnâ€t understand is why she seems to be pushing people away and turning fans against her.
“I think the fight game has passed her by. I think the wrestling world has passed her by. But that doesnâ€t mean the world is going to forget about Ronda Rousey. And thatâ€s what I donâ€t understand — why is she trying to make the world turn against her? I donâ€t know why.â€
This comes after Ronda Rousey criticized WWE last year, especially targeting Bruce Prichard and John Laurinaitis, expressing her frustrations by telling them to go ‘f*** themselves.â€ÂRonda Rousey also alleged that WWE discriminated against women and a lot of other things.
Booker Tâ€s comments show what a lot of wrestling fans and wrestlers think: Ronda Rousey has pushed herself away from the wrestling world that once supported her. She still has an important legacy in both MMA and WWE, but itâ€s clear no one really wants her back in the wrestling world and that might never change.
Do you agree with Booker T that Ronda Rousey has become too bitter for wrestling to welcome her back? Why do you think Ronda continues to take aim at WWE and MMA fans? Sound off in the comments.
