While the majority of prospects in Baseball America’s Top 100 Prospects and Top 30s are from the United States, a number of other countries are also well represented. To help spotlight this diversity in nationality, we’re ranking the best current prospects in a wide variety of countries. We are using a player’s birth country, although in some cases, that may differ from where a player grew up.

Best MLB Player Ever: Mariano Rivera

There are a pair of Panama-born Hall of Famers. Rod Carew was one of the best hitters of the 1960s and 1970s, and he finished his career as a .328 hitter with 3,053 hits. But as good as Carew was, it’s easy to make an even stronger case for Yankees closer Mariano Rivera.

Rivera is considered the best closer of all-time. He finished as the all-time leader in saves (652) and games finished (952). He was a 13-time All-Star, a five-time World Series winner and a World Series MVP. He was the first-ever player to receive votes on 100% of HOF ballots counted.

Best MLB Player Now: José Caballero

Yankees utility man José Caballero has been a versatile defender who can play almost anywhere and has solid on-base skills. He’s also stolen 44 bases this season. Cardinals DH Iván Herrera has 14 home runs this season after hitting .301/.372/.428 in 2024.

Top Prospect: Eduardo Tait

Panama is a birthplace of catchers. Tait, who was recently traded from the Phillies to the Twins, is the best current Panamanian prospect, as he ranks 52nd in the Top 100.

But he has plenty of company among backstops. Two of the current big league Panamanians are catchers (Miguel Amaya and Herrera). Four of the top five current prospects are catchers, and there are another 11 Panamanian catchers currently in the minors beyond this top five.
