While the majority of prospects in Baseball America’s Top 100 Prospects and Top 30s are from the United States, a number of other countries are also well represented. To help spotlight this diversity in nationality, we’re ranking the best current prospects in a wide variety of countries. We are using a player’s birth country, although in some cases, that may differ from where a player grew up.

Best MLB Player Ever: Cuba has a long history of producing baseball stars, stretching back to Dolf Luque, who won 194 games in the 1910s, ’20s and ’30s. He was followed by Camilio Pascual and Luis Tiant, who handed over their status as aces to Livan and Orlando Hernandez.

Among hitters, Tony Pérez, Tony Oliva, Cristóbal Torriente, Martín Dihigo and Minnie Miñoso are Hall of Famers. José Canseco, Rafael Palmeiro and José Abreu are among more recent star sluggers.

Best MLB Player Now: Yordan Alvarez

Astros outfielder Yordan Alvarez has struggled with injuries this year, but he’s been one of the best hitters in the game over the first half of the decade. Randy Arozarena has been a consistent performer and playoff star. Lefthander Aroldis Chapman has been one of the best closers of the 21st century and one of the hardest-throwing pitchers the game has ever seen.

Top Prospect: Lazaro Montes

Mariners outfielder Lazaro Montes is hoping to follow in Alvarez’s footsteps as a slugging corner outfielder who can threaten light towers with his power. He’s currently 36th in the Top 100.

Beyond Montes, there are a number of very interesting pitching prospects. Luis Morales and Kendry Rojas could slide into larger MLB roles in 2026. Yandel Ricardo and Kevin Alvarez are further away, but both have high ceilings.
