BCCI approach ICC: What did Haris Rauf, Sahibzada Farhan do against India? | Cricket News

(AP Photo/Altaf Qadri) The BCCI has filed an official complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC) against Pakistani players Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan for their provocative gestures during the Asia Cup 2025 Super 4s match in Dubai on Sunday (September 21). What did Haris Rauf and Sahibazada Farhan do?The BCCI submitted the complaint on Wednesday regarding Farhan’s gun celebration after his half-century and Rauf’s airplane downing gestures. The BCCI’s complaint specifically addresses Sahibzada Farhan’s controversial celebration after reaching his fifty, which involved mimicking a gun-firing motion. The complaint also highlights Haris Rauf’s actions during the same match. When Indian fans began chanting “Kohli, Kohli” – referencing Virat Kohli’s match-winning sixes against Rauf during the 2022 T20 World Cup in Melbourne – the Pakistani pacer responded by making gestures suggesting the downing of an aircraft, which was interpreted as mocking India’s military actions during Operation Sindoor. He subsequently made a ‘6-0’ using his fingers to suggest the Pakistani narrative of six Indian jets being downed during the Operation. That wasn’t the only time he appeared to mimic such a gesture. He had seemingly done the same act after dismissing Sanju Samson. The incident was further complicated by Rauf’s confrontation with Indian openers Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill. The altercation occurred after the Indian batters led a successful chase of 172 runs at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. As per rules, if Sahibzada and Rauf choose to deny these charges in writing, they will face an official hearing. This hearing would require their appearance before ICC Elite Panel Referee Richie Richardson. The Pakistani players could face sanctions under the ICC’s Code of Conduct if they fail to provide satisfactory justification for their actions.Farhan, however, has maintained his stance on the celebration. In his post-match interaction with the media, he stated: “That celebration was just a spur of the moment. I rarely celebrate when I get to fifty. But when I got there I suddenly got the idea of celebrating, and so I did without knowing or caring how people would interpret it. We should play aggressive cricket against any team, not just India, the way we played today.”
