Bangladesh Gets An Easy Win Against Hong Kong

Bangladesh Gets An Easy Win Against Hong Kong: Bangladesh kicked off their Asia Cup 2025 campaign with a comfortable win over Hong Kong. Not only was this a fine start to the competition for the Tigers, but it also put another nail into the already slim chances of the minnows making it out of this group.

The Bangladesh vs Hong Kong Group B game was Match 3 of the ACC Asia Cup 2025. The tournament is being played in the UAE, and this match saw the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi being its location. Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bowl first on a pitch that has been shown to have better batting conditions under lights.

Hong Kong lost their first wicket early, as opener Anshuman Rath was dismissed in the second over at a personal score of four. The next few overs saw wicketkeeper Zeeshan Ali try to grab onto the wickets with veteran batter Babar Hayat. The two took the team to the 30-run mark in the fifth over. But before the end of the powerplay, Hayat was bowled by Tanzin Hasan Sakib.

It was now upon Ali and Nizakat Khan to stabilise the inning, which they did. Their cautious play resulted in Hong Kong not losing any more wickets till the 12th over. But soon after they crossed the 70-run mark, Zeeshan Ali was finally dismissed after making 30 off 34.

The run rate would come down to a crawl, as Nizakat Khan played a run-a-ball inning for the longest time, while captain Yasim Murtaza tried to keep a healthier strike rate.

Four wickets fell in the final three overs as Hong Kong pulled itself to a low yet respectable total of 143/7 at the end of 20 overs, with Nizakat being the team’s highest run scorer after making 42 off 40. The Bangla trio of Taskin Ahmed, Rishad Hossain, and Tanzin Hasan Sakib took three wickets each, with Sakib being the pick of the bowlers for his four-over spell of 2/21.

In response, Bangladesh seemed to have gotten off to a decent start. The opening pair of Parvez Hossain Emon and Tanzid Hasan made 24 runs in the first three overs before Emon got out while looking to slog the ball. Before the end of the powerplay, the second opener would go, as the score was now 47/2.

However, any aspirations that Hong Kong would have of causing an upset in this game would falter here, as the experienced pair of Towhid Hridoy and skipper Litton Das took charge of taking their side home. The two batted for over 11 overs together and had a 95-run partnership.

By the time Das was dismissed for 59 off 39 in the 18th over, the match was already done and dusted. The team score was 142/3, and Bangladesh needed only two runs off 17 deliveries, but they would need only three, as the Tigers would win the game by seven wickets and 14 balls to spare. For his fine innings, Litton Das was named the Player of the Match.

With their win in this Bangladesh vs Hong Kong match, the Bangladeshis have gotten off to a solid start in Asia Cup 2025. They now stand second in Group B behind Afghanistan. Their next game, on September 13, will be against a mighty Sri Lanka team.
