DE PERE, Wis. – Ava Carlson (FY, Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS) collected 31 kills and 20 digs on the afternoon, leading the Augsburg University volleyball team in its season-opening competition on Friday at the St. Norbert College Invitational, falling in three sets to the host Green Knights and falling in five sets to Gallaudet University.

ST. NORBERT 3, AUGSBURG 0

• Augsburg kept close to host St. Norbert in the opening match, which featured 21 ties and six lead changes. But the Auggies hit just .098 in the match, with 20 attack errors against 32 kills on 122 attempts.

• Carlson recorded 15 kills and six digs to lead the Auggies against the Green Knights. Taylor Hoehns (SR, Cedar Falls, Iowa/Dike-New Hartford HS) added five kills with two blocks and six digs.

• Jovial King (SO, Caledonia, Minn./Caledonia HS) claimed her sixth collegiate assist-dig double-double and first 20-20 double-double, with 25 assists and 22 digs.

• Maggie Lile (JR, Spring Grove, Minn./Spring Grove HS) and Elise Uphoff (JR, Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield HS) had 10 digs each.

GALLAUDET 3, AUGSBURG 2

• Friday’s second match featured 29 ties and 11 lead changes, as Gallaudet rallied from a first-set deficit to win the second, third and fifth sets over the Auggies.

• Carlson claimed her seventh career kill-dig double-double, with 16 kills and 14 digs.

• Marley Mitchell (SO, Nevis, Minn./Nevis HS) had her first collegiate double-digit kill performance, with 14 kills, adding two digs.

• King had a solid all-around match, with career-highs of 40 assists and five blocks (one solo), to go along with seven digs and four kills.

• Elizabeth Oster (JR, Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS) had six kills and three blocks, and Hoehns had eight kills with two blocks (one solo).

• Uphoff had 19 digs and five assists, and New New (FY, Albert Lea, Minn./Albert Lead HS) had 18 digs.

FOR THE FOES

• Mari Szews had 14 kills and two blocks for St. Norbert in the opening match, with Casey Vaughan recording 13 kills, 12 digs and a block.

• Brielle Worley led Gallaudet with 27 kills and 16 digs.
