Former WWE star Priscilla Kelly (fka Gigi Dolin) just dropped a harsh dose of reality for fans who think all WWE talent are living in luxury.
During an interview with Denise Salcedo, Kelly broke down the real financial struggles that many wrestlers—especially those in NXT—face behind the curtain.
Kelly addressed the common misconception that anyone under the WWE umbrella must be living large, driving luxury cars, and raking in six-figure paychecks. According to her, that couldnâ€t be further from the truth.
“The common misconception about, especially NXT performers is that weâ€re millionaires, right? Like, a lot of fans for some reason think that if you work in WWE and youâ€re under that umbrella, youâ€re a millionaire. You live in a mansion. Youâ€re driving a Benz. Like, youâ€ve got it made. Thatâ€s not the case.â€
She didnâ€t hold back when it came to actual numbers either.
“In NXT, there are contracts as low as $30,000 a year, and they do not go as high as you think.â€
Living in Florida, where WWE requires NXT talent to be based, only makes things harder.
“Itâ€s very expensive living here—having to pay for new gear all the time and all these expenses, taking care of your body, and getting all these little things. It all adds up.â€
Unlike independent wrestlers, WWE performers are also locked out of outside income unless given special permission.
“At the end of the day… you canâ€t make money outside of what you make in WWE, [so] you donâ€t make a lot.â€
And while main roster stars may have a better paycheck, Kelly reminded everyone that even they have to pay their own way on the road.
“Of course, there are people on the main roster making the really big, big, big bucks—but thatâ€s a small percentage. A lot of people up there make good money, but theyâ€re also paying for every hotel, paying for all their travel, food, and everything they need.â€
“If you donâ€t know what youâ€re talking about, a lot of you need to shut the fck up. Because you donâ€t know what people are going through, you donâ€t know what people make, and I think everyone just needs to stop assuming they know everything—because they donâ€t.â€*
Wrestling may be full of glitz and glam on-screen, but for many performers grinding it out in NXT or mid-level main roster roles, the reality is far from flashy.
