Adele has reportedly emerged as a candidate to serve as the halftime performer for Super Bowl LX in February.
According to Mara Siegler and Ian Mohr of Page Six, Adele “has been approached” about doing the prestigious halftime show at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, but no firm commitment has been made by either side.
Adele joins a growing list of potential halftime performers, with Siegler and Mohr noting that Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus have also generated “buzz” as contenders for the spot.
In 2016, Adele said during a concert that she turned down the opportunity to perform at Super Bowl LI, although the NFL and Pepsi later released a statement denying that was the case, saying, “The NFL and Pepsi are big fans of Adele. We have had conversations with several artists about the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show. However, we have not at this point extended a formal offer to Adele or anyone else.”
Adele, who is British, said she attended Super Bowl LVII in 2023 just to see Rihanna’s halftime show, noting that she didn’t “give a flying f–k” about the game itself, per Siegler and Mohr.
If Adele does have interest in the gig this time around, Swift could potentially be her biggest competition.
Swift not only has ties to the NFL since she is engaged to Kansas City Chiefs superstar tight end Travis Kelce, but she is also releasing a new album entitled The Life of a Showgirl next month.
During an appearance this month on NBC’s Today (h/t Leah Bitsky of Page Six), NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said Swift “would be welcome at any time” as the halftime performer, adding, “It’s a maybe.”
Swift may be the dream get for the NFL, but Adele has a massive fanbase in her own right.
Known for her hit songs “Hello,” “Someone Like You,” and “Rolling in the Deep,” Adele is a 16-time Grammy Award winner, making her one of the most decorated and successful performers of her time.
