Aaron Rodgers Passes Brett Favre for 4th in NFL History with 509th Career Passing TD

One Green Bay Packers legend passed another for fourth place on the NFL’s list of all-time touchdown passes.

And he did so in a Pittsburgh Steelers uniform.

Aaron Rodgers threw the 509th touchdown of his career during the first half of Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots, which moved him ahead of Brett Favre for fourth place. The quarterback made history, but DK Metcalf impressed as well with a contested catch along the sidelines in the end zone.

Rodgers, 41, is going to have to play a lot longer if he hopes to climb to the top of the list.

That is because Tom Brady’s spot is fairly secured:

Still, Rodgers moving ahead of Favre of all people is quite notable. After all, the latter was the franchise quarterback of the Packers when the NFC North team selected the former in the first round of the 2005 NFL draft.

That meant Rodgers spent the first three years of his career sitting behind the Hall of Famer before finally ascending to the starting role in the 2008 season. It is a testament to his overall consistency and longevity that only three players in league history have thrown more touchdowns despite a late start to his career.

Favre ended up on the New York Jets in 2008, which is the same team Rodgers ironically first played with after he left the Packers as the NFC North team turned the offense over to Jordan Love.

This is another accomplishment for Rodgers to add to a resume that includes a Super Bowl title, Super Bowl MVP, four league MVPs, 10 Pro Bowl selections and two seasons leading the league in passing touchdowns.

He may not be as dominant as he was at this peak with the Packers, but he threw five touchdowns in the first two games of the season and made some history in the third game Sunday.

If he keeps playing like that, Manning’s spot in third place could be in jeopardy.
