Trevor Lawrence ‘Not Worried’ About Brian Thomas Jr. amid Jaguars WR’s Slow Start

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence wasn’t concerned about wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr.’s struggles to open the 2025 season.

“Give BT a little space,” Lawrence told reporters Wednesday. “He’s going to be just fine. Not worried about him at all. Just something we gotta continue to work at. We’re gonna have a good plan for him each week to be involved. He’s too good of a player to not be involved and make those plays down the field that we all know he can make. Got all the confidence in the world in him and excited for another opportunity for him this week to get going.”

Thomas has hauled in just five receptions on 19 targets for 60 yards through his first two games of the year, failing to meet expectations after wrapping up an impressive inaugural NFL season in 2024.

The former first-round pick immediately established himself as the top option in Jacksonville’s passing attack as a rookie, recording 87 catches for 1,282 yards and 10 touchdowns. Thomas was named to the Pro Bowl and finished No. 4 in AP Offensive Rookie of the Year voting.

His hands haven’t been as consistent in 2025, dropping three of his 19 targets this year after amassing just seven drops on 133 targets last season.

A pass from Lawrence also hit Thomas’ hands and ended up getting intercepted during Jacksonville’s 31-27 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2.

The wideout owns a mere 17.8 passer rating when targeted through two games this season, according to Pro Football Focus.

It’s worth noting that Jaguars head coach Liam Coen confirmed that Thomas was dealing with a wrist injury against Cincinnati.

Lawrence also seems to be confident that the 22-year-old can get back on track soon, especially with 15 games still remaining in the regular season.
