AEW Star Claims He’s Everyone’s Favorite ‘Pillar’

Sammy Guevara is confident in his popularity with AEW and Ring Of Honor fans.

Guevara was in a tough predicament going into ROH Death Before Dishonor, as his tag team partner, Dustin Rhodes, is sidelined after double knee replacement surgery. This left Guevara without a partner to defend the (now-vacated) ROH World Tag Team Titles, at least temporarily.

Guevara ultimately teamed with RUSH on the pay-per-view and won the match, ensuring the title stayed around his waist. This was Guevara’s second match of the night, as he teamed with the Von Erichs to compete for the ROH Six Man Tag Team titles in Rhodes’ place. Guevara’s team lost that match to Shane Taylor Promotions, but Guevara was in a positive mood after the event.

“Everyone’s favorite Pillar is Champion once again. #BestEver,” Guevara wrote on Twitter/X.

Many fans believe this signified the beginning of another heel turn for Guevara, who also seemed to exhibit some “heel” tendencies during the tag team title match.

Sammy Guevara isn’t bothered if some fans believe he’s not a ‘pillar’

Guevara’s remark on social media refers to the “Four Pillars Of AEW.” This moniker was given to Guevara, MJF, Darby Allin and Jack Perry, designating them as AEW’s foundation (and future).

Fans have continued to debate who should (and should not) be on that list. No matter who you feel should be on the list, Guevara says it’s still an honor to be included. He also said that replacing a name on the list doesn’t take away from the original four’s accomplishments.

Despite seeing the ‘pillar’ debate as a positive, Guevara told WrestleZone that he used to let criticism bother him. However, he said becoming a father gave him a way to ignore the negativity.

“It used to bother me a lot, what people would say. Because I felt like I was always looking for outside validation. Ultimately, I just needed to find validation with myself. I feel like I found that. And a lot of people’s comments, it’s water off the back, it doesn’t stick. I felt like maybe becoming a dad helped with that. ‘Yeah, so and so is saying this.’ Or, ‘This person said this.’ It’s like, ‘Man, who cares?’ I have a daughter I can go and hang out with. And we can go to the park and have fun. [That’s] kept me focused on what’s really important in life.”
